ALL UNDERGROUND WORKS

May 2015 - April 2016

TDM Construction Ltd was contracted by Downer NZ Ltd as the main civil contractor for client, La Farge Holcim, to build a new cement supply dome in central Auckland.

The project was a complicated one with the ex-commercial site having extensive concrete footings left behind on what was already reclaimed land, in poor ground conditions. This meant the initial drainage stages were challenging and each day brought new obstacles to conquer.

Tight time frames meant the site got increasingly busy and with the cement supply route going through the Ports of Auckland operations yard, planning, health and safety, and flexibility were a critical part of day-to-day management.

The pavement design was unique in that it was fully built on "cement treated basecourse" which created significant challenges in running up to 20 truck and trailers through an already congested site before the product was able to be used.

Despite the challenges, the project was a success and delivered on time and within budget, thanks to the whole team, from management to ground staff.
